Our History
A collective history looking to the future
Over the years, we have grown to become Magnesia, the world reference as a magnesia expert and vertically–integrated producer. From the raw material extracted from our mines, to the development of high value-added solutions, we are responsible for managing and controlling each step in four main areas of application.
Our Story
1976
Launch of our activity in animal nutrition applications.
2000
Opening up to refractory applications, mainly for the steel industry, by acquiring 60% of Magnesitas Navarras – a Spanish company founded in 1945 that exploits one of the largest magnesite deposits in Eugui (Spain).
2005
Geographical expansion with the creation of Magna Mexico.
2012
A new milestone was reached with the acquisition of Van Mannekus, a magnesia producer and distributor located in Rotterdam.
2013
Acceleration of our development over the Americas (North, Central and South) with the acquisition of 50% of Magnesium do Brasil – a century-old Brazilian company based in the state of Cearà, employs 480 people, and extracts 300,000 tons of ore each year.
2017
Inauguration of a new mine in Borobia, in the province of Soria in Spain.
2018 - 2021
Continuation of our development with the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Magnesitas Navarras and Magnesium do Brasil.
2023
Extension of our expansion with the creation of a new unit dedicated to industrial minerals and the environment.
2024
Commitment to decarbonization with the creation of a team dedicated to sustainable development through 3 pillars: sustainable production, CSR and communication.
2025
Launch of a new brand, the result of a collective effort: magnesia is embodied in Terresis, placing us as its world reference.
