The construction
In the construction sector, magnesium minerals are essential components. Whether it is to formulate high-performance cements, stabilize floors or design innovative solutions – waterproofing, anti-slip or anti-wear – they adapt to all constraints, even the most extreme.
Magnesium cements
Magnesia is a key element in the formulation of high-performance cements. Available in different forms – magnesium oxychloride, magnesium oxysulphate, phosphomagnesian, magnesium silicate hydrate – it offers unique performance suitable for multiple applications.
It is found in particular in the manufacture of magnesium panels, an innovative and very competitive alternative to traditional materials. These panels are distinguished by their fire resistance, excellent mechanical properties and insulating properties, while limiting the growth of mould. Magnesia is also very useful for the production of high-strength industrial floors, without visible joints, as well as for the production of abrasive stones where it acts as a binder for different types of aggregates.
The latest major advance: phosphomagnesium cements. Originally used in the dental sector, they have unique properties for the construction sector. Ultra-fast setting and curing, durability, low pH and biocompatibility… All of these assets make it a preferred choice for preparation mortars, protective coatings, radioactive waste encapsulation and even 3D printing.
Additives for concrete and mortars
Magnesia is a high-performance mineral additive for cementitious formulations intended for the manufacture of shrinkage concrete and mortars. Thanks to its controlled reactivity and compatibility with hydraulic binders, it is easily incorporated into the cementitious mixture, while significantly reducing the risk of surface cracking or deformation ;, increasing joint spacing and optimizing impermeability, even in the case of thin sections and surface coatings.
The use of magnesia is an effective way to obtain a more durable concrete that requires little maintenance, whether it is to make floors, paving, and even airport runways and road elements.
Anti-slip coatings
For anti-slip and anti-wear coatings, emery – metamorphic rock – is also an excellent choice. Available in different grain sizes, it gives surfaces exceptional durability in the face of mechanical and chemical stresses, offering increased resistance to bad weather, acidic or alkaline environments, as well as hydrocarbons, oils, greases.
Particularly suitable for high-load environments, such as industrial floors, warehouses, ships, access ramps and offshore platforms. Emery also stands out in cutting-edge applications, such as aeronautics and aerospace. Its grip performance is synonymous with safety and durability.
Soil stabilization
Magnesia-based stabilization solutions combine technical performance, competitiveness and sustainability to transform an existing soil into a stable and durable structure. They improve the properties of the stabilised soil, neutralise its acidity and effectively immobilise pollutants and heavy metals. Suitable for foundations, dikes and road infrastructure, they make it possible to recycle existing soil without having to excavate it or import new materials. The result is a reduced environmental impact, less risk of road degradation and limited nuisance to the surrounding environment.
