pHix-up®

Subtitle: Innovative neutralizing agent

In modern farming, the quest for performance leads to the formulation of rations that are increasingly rich in concentrates. This increases the risk of subacute rumen acidosis (SARA), which can affect both animal health and productivity.

Faced with this challenge, traditional solutions such as sodium bicarbonate show some limitations. pHix-up® has been designed to go further: a magnesium-based neutralizer that is effective, fast and long-lasting and designed for the real needs of ruminants in production.

The + products

  • A high ability to neutralize the acids produced in the rumen
  • A rapid and long-term action between two ingestions
  • A highly soluble source of magnesium

A unique formula

pHix-up is an innovative neutralizing agent formulated with a mixture of several sources of MgO, specifically selected after more than 3 years of research to have a complementary mode of action on rumen pH. Designed with unique industrial expertise, pHix-up combines the most efficient magnesium compounds, offering both a fast and long-lasting effect.

Unlike conventional neutralizers, pHix-up acts both in the short term and maintains its effect over time, between two meals, which contributes to a better stability of rumen pH. This effect can be explained by the complementary mode of action of the MgO sources that compose it: some structures solubilize and act quickly after ingestion, while others have slower kinetics to act in the medium and long term. pHix-up also has a  high acid neutralization capacity (39 mEq/g), more than 3 times greater than that of sodium bicarbonate.

At the same time, pHix-up® is a source of soluble magnesium, a mineral essential for more than 300 enzymatic reactions in the body.

Proven results in the field

pHix-up® has been tested many times under experimental conditions and in numerous field trials around the world.

In 2021, we conducted a study with Prof. Alex Bach at the Blanca Experimental Station in Spain to compare the use of 62g pHix-up to 200g of sodium bicarbonate.

The results are clear:

  • Cows receiving pHix-up maintained a higher rumen pH and spent less time below pH 5.8, the risk threshold for acidosis.
  • The microbial diversity of the rumen was better preserved, with a greater abundance of fibrobacter in the pHix-up group, a bacterium that is key for fibre digestion but is very sensitive to rumen acidity.
  • Fiber digestibility (NDF) was significantly improved in the pHix-up group compared to the sodium bicarbonate group.

These results show that pHix-up® is not limited to an action on the pH: it supports rumen balance and promotes better use of forages.

Simple and flexible use:

pHix-up can be incorporated directly into rations, at levels adjusted according to the acid risk.

Dosage and precise equivalences with sodium bicarbonate and other neutralizing agents can be calculated via our pHix-up® App.

This flexibility allows nutritionists and farmers to choose the most appropriate dose according to the objectives, while ensuring that the overall mineral profile of the ration remains in line with the animals’ needs.

The rumen is a fragile system, particularly sensitive in certain situations:

  • Dietary transitions : switching to higher-energy rations, grazing.
  • Heat stress : reduced consumption and increased risk of acidosis.
  • Rations with a high concentrate content, typical of intensive dairy farms and fattening.

Through its effect on rumen pH, pHix-up® allows a better balance of the rumen to support the optimization of rations in these different situations.
