Gunning products

In the metallurgical sector, surface maintenance and repair should not influence productivity and quality. To achieve this, it is recommended to use magnesia-based gunning products that guarantee excellent performance, but also innovative application technologies that reduce downtime and make interventions safer.

Gunning, an essential solution to extend the life of metallurgical furnaces

In the steel industry, gunning is one of the most efficient methods for hot repair of damaged refractory linings. The process consists of projecting, under high pressure and at high speed, a refractory mixture conveyed through a hose to a spray nozzle.

This method has become essential: it allows excellent adhesion to degraded areas, a high density and a better resistance to penetration of liquid metal. It also makes it easier to reach areas that are usually difficult to access, while reducing the duration and frequency of production stoppages.

At Terresis MAGNA, we offer a wide range of gunning compounds based on sintered magnesia and specific binders, offering stability at high temperatures as well as formulations designed for quick and easy application.

Modern technologies to optimize furnace maintenance

In the steel industry, precision and speed of intervention are essential to limit production downtime and extend the life of refractory linings. Thanks to robotization, the gunning process has been modernized to allow real-time control, precise targeting of critical areas and uniform application, reducing waste and ensuring the safety of operators.

At Terresis MAGNA, we offer turnkey solutions that combine magnesium mixtures and the latest generation of projection equipment: projection robots, mobile projection units, projection lances, rotary presses, etc.  These innovative technologies – suitable for electric arc furnaces, ladles and basic oxygen converters (BOFs) – allow access to the entire circumference of the furnace, even under the slag door. The result: reduced gunning times and frequencies, improved material yield, increased productivity and increased safety for personnel.
