Harmonized Efforts for Reducing Mercury Emissions Safely

LIFE HERMES
The goal of the project is to validate the use of Hidramag® as a safe, effective, and cost-efficient solution for the treatment of mercury-contaminated soils.
Industrial symbiosis for circularity and economy of critical raw materials

SINCER
The general objective of the SINCER project is the research into sustainable technologies for the recovery of critical and key metals with raw material quality. Specifically, it focuses on the recovery of fundamental metals (Mn, Si, Mg, Ni, Cr) and key metals (Zn, Fe) present in industrial waste from different origins for their reintegration into the original process and other processes. The project aims to generate scientific and technological knowledge to support the development of new efficient and sustainable recovery schemes through hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes and advanced conditioning and separation technologies.
Revalorisation of production waste as stabilised material for traffic road pavement layers

REFLOAT
The project aims to develop a stabilized construction material for road pavement applications, enabling fine mineral waste (<3 mm) from magnesite extraction to be reclassified as a secondary raw material. This contributes to circular economy implementation within the magnesite value chain. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Public University of Navarra.
Use of magnesium co-products to facilitate circular economy in urban wastewater treatment plants through phosphorus recovery in the form of struvite, biogas upgrading and fertiliser production

MAGNEDAR
The main objective of the MagnEDAR project is to design, develop and validate in a real environment technological solutions enabling the use of magnesium oxide co-products in Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), supporting circular economy practices. Specifically, biogas upgrading, phosphorus recovery as struvite and valorisation of struvite as fertiliser will be evaluated. These new technological solutions will allow progress in the modern conception of WWTP as stations for recovery and revalorisation of resources, coming both from wastewater and industrial co-products. The project is led by Navarra de Infraestructuras Locales S.A. and includes the participation of MAGNA, GyD Tecnología del Agua, CEIT, University of Barcelona and University of Navarra.
Development of new sustainable fire protection materials based on waste for the promotion of circular economy

The general objective of the project is the development of advanced software that allows processing the data collected by the artificial vision camera and displaying the thickness of the refractory material inside the kiln in a useful and effective visual format to have greater control of kiln operation.
Hydrogen storage from magnesium-based products

HIDROMAG
The general objective of HIDROMAG is to assess the feasibility of magnesium-based products and by-products as hydrogen (H₂) storage systems through chemical absorption and physical adsorption mechanisms. The project will evaluate and quantify the most promising alternatives compared to existing storage technologie. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the L’Urederra Technological Centre.
New eco-friendly binders on recycled magnesium for sustainable contruction and the promotion of the circular economy

MISIONES CERES
The main objective of the CERES Project is to develop comprehensive research on aspects limiting valorisation of main mineral-based waste generated during stainless steel industrial production (slag and refractories), addressing new reuse models with direct impact on sustainability of traditionally linked sectors highly dependent on virgin natural resources, such as Refractory Producers [closed loops]; or in areas where recycling would represent significant environmental protection progress through formulation of innovative products with high ecological component, such as new hydraulic road binders (HRB) [open loops].

Replacement of compressors in the compressed air network for the production plant

Within the framework of our commitment to sustainability, we develop projects focused on energy efficiency, circular economy, and reducing environmental footprint.
Terresis Centro de Magnesitas Navarra has received assistance for the implementation of the project ‘Replacement of compressors in the compressed air network for the production plant’ within the call for the Energy Efficiency Program in SMEs and Large Companies in the Industrial Sector, granted by the Government of Navarra and coordinated by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), funded by the National Energy Efficiency Fund managed by the Autonomous Communities. This aid is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The project proposes replacing the network air compressors with more efficient variable-speed equipment and incorporating a room manager to control and optimize the network’s operation based on demand at different supply points of the production process, achieving annual energy savings of 34.87 toe (tons of oil equivalent).
The project involved an investment of €190,159, for which assistance of €19,021.38 was granted

Improvement of calcination process efficiency through recovery of heat and residual energy

IDAE CAPOTA
Terresis Centro de Magnesitas Navarras has received aid for the project ‘Improvement of calcination process efficiency through recovery of heat and residual energy’ within the Energy Efficiency Programme for SMEs and Large Industrial Companies granted by the Government of Navarra and funded through the National Energy Efficiency Fund, and co-financed by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The project has two objectives: recovery of residual heat emitted by the kiln through a hood and its use in petcoke drying, reducing natural gas consumption; and improvement of heat exchanger performance by modifying gas circuit and incorporating an additional ramp to improve heat exchange between hot gases and solid material to be calcined, increasing temperature and reducing petcoke consumption.
Results translate into savings of 118.14 toe/year in natural gas and 864 tons of petcoke/year equivalent to 670 toe/year.
The project involved an investment of €161,995.00 with granted aid of €48,498.50
